UNDATED (WHTC) – A number of public entities are holding scheduled meetings this evening.
During the Holland Community Sustainability Committee monthly meeting at Holland City Hall, the members will hear from the City Forester about the Tulip City’s tree canopy goals and the status of its “urban forest.” The panel will also go through its Framework Checklist ahead of a planned formal presentation of its new goals and objectives after the first of the year, and this is the final scheduled committee meeting before the “Energize You” event on October 8th.
During the Zeeland City Council meeting, the panel is expected to revise water rates specifically to cover looming special contract expiration with Mead Johnson at the end of October for its food processing plant off of Main Avenue. Council is also asked to allow food trucks to operate within the city limits, and to prohibit Sunday burials and/or cremations at the municipal Zeeland Cemetery.
During the Zeeland Board of Education meeting, the panel is expected to approve purchasing two 71-passenger school buses and a special ed bus at a total cost of over 300 thousand dollars. It would replace three aging vehicles that have already been or will be auctioned off, and the costs of the purchases were figured into a 53.5 million-dollar bond plan approved by voters this past February that would replace up to 19 vehicles over the next five to seven years.
Other school board meetings are scheduled for the Holland, West Ottawa and Saugatuck districts this evening.
