Unemployment Dips Along Lakeshore in August

LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Unemployment along the Lakeshore fell again last month. In numbers from the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, joblessness stood at 3.2 percent in Ottawa County and 3.5 percent in Allegan County during August. Those levels were at four percent even and 4.3 percent respectively in July and keeps Ottawa second-lowest and Allegan tied for fourth-lowest among Michigan’s 83 counties. A year ago, unemployment was at 4.6 percent in Ottawa County and five percent even in Allegan County. State officials say jobless rates typically fall in August and that this year was no exception, with workforce levels lower than during the June-July summer peak.
