Monday 10/5: Show Your Library Love Photo Booth at the Herrick District Library- What do you love about your library? Join Herrick District Library in their new community awareness campaign called Show Your Library Love! There have been several photo booth events set up for patrons to come in and take a picture with any book you love. After you take the photo, you will receive the photo booth print outs. We will also email you a digital copy to post on social media outlets. 300 South River Avenue, Holland; 4-6pm; Free.
Tuesday 10/6: Healthier Holland Workout Class at Kollen Park- A fun, free group workout for all ages. 40 Kollen Park Drive, Holland; 5:45pm; Free.
Wednesday 10/7 Farmers Market at Eighth Street Market Place- Buy fresh produce, flowers, plants, baked goods, meats cheeses, spices and more from over 50 vendors. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at our Food Court. 150 West Eighth Street, Holland; 8am-2pm.
Thursday 10/8: On Two Fronts: Latinos and Vietnam Documentary at the Knickerbocker Theatre- The Big Read Holland Area joins with Hispanic Heritage Month collaborative to present a documentary of “memoirs from two siblings examining the Latino experience during a war that placed the heaviest burden on working-class youth.” “On Two Fronts: Latinos and Vietnam” has been scheduled in conjunction with national Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) and in anticipation of the multiple events taking place across November during The Big Read Holland Area. 86 East 8th Street, Holland; 7:30pm; Doors open at 7pm; Free.
Friday 10/9: Hope College Theatre Department presents “The Christians” at DeWitt Theatre- Twenty years ago, Pastor Paul’s church was nothing more than a modest storefront. Now he presides over a congregation of thousands, with classrooms for Sunday School, a coffee shop in the lobby, and a baptismal font as big as a swimming pool. Today should be a day of celebration. But Paul is about to preach a sermon that will shake the foundations of his church’s belief. Saturday 10/10: Fall Fest in Downtown Holland- The professional carvers will return to Downtown Holland, where they will spend the day sculpting incredible, three-dimensional pumpkin displays. Watch these talented artists at work, then be sure to return later on to see their finished masterpieces! You can also watch the professional pumpkin carvers show off their talents at the Holland Farmers Market from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. In addition to free face painting and balloon twisting, pumpkin painting will be available at the Market for just $1.00 per pumpkin, with all painting supplies provided. Ready for School will be also hosting fall-themed games and activities from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Fall Fest will conclude from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm with the first ever Downtown Holland comfort food cook-off, complete with a beer tent and live music by The Outer Vibe. This year’s featured dish is everyone’s favorite…Macaroni and Cheese! The cook-off is an all ages event that is fun for the entire family and will take place in the parking lot behind the Plaza East Building off of 7th Street, across from the parking deck, between Columbia & College Avenues. Tasting tickets will be available at the door or online at www.hollandfallfest.com. Tickets are just $1.00 each ticket and is good for one macaroni and cheese sample.
Sunday 10/11: Holland Model Train Show at the Holland Civic Center- Presented by the Grand Rapids Model Railroad Historical Society. 150 West Eighth Street, Holland; 10am-3pm; $5 , 12 and under free with adult.
