LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Tomorrow is the 18th annual Walk to School Day, celebrated nationwide.
Thousands of Michigan students, along with their parents, teachers and community leaders, are expected to participate. The event is organized by the Michigan Safe Routes to School program according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The program is working to create new, safe routes for children to travel to and from school, and to promote mental and physical health.
Walk to School Day is to encourage parents and students to consider walking as an alternative for getting to school according to Meg Thomas-Ackerman, Director of Safe Routes to School.
