WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) – Ottawa County Sheriff Gary Rosema is opting not to seek reelection in 2016, ending a 42-year career in law enforcement, the last 41 in the department, and as its sheriff since 1993. He didn’t spell out any single reason or reasons for his decision in a statement from his office, other than that the decision was made “after much discussion with family, friends and colleagues.” During his career, Rosema served on various panels involving law enforcement and children’s advocacy, including chairing the Governor’s Council on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Initiatives.
