WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) – A day after Ottawa County Sheriff Gary Rosema decided to call time on his law enforcement career, his undersheriff expressed interest in succeeding him in the 2016 election. Steve Kempker was elevated to the number two spot in the department in January after the retirement of Greg Steigenga, and the Holland-area resident has risen in the ranks since he joined in 1989. Rosema didn’t give any particular reason why he was stepping down now following more than four decades of service in the Sheriff’s Department, including being Sheriff since 1993.
