HART, MI (WHTC) – A 27-year-old Zeeland man has a November 3rd hearing in Hart District Court on misdemeanor charges stemming from illegally killing a bear sow who was accompanied by her cubs last month. State DNR officers claim that Derek Harsevoort shot the animal with a compound bow on September 23rd in the Manistee National Forest. He reportedly said that the bear was alone at the time that she was killed, but allegedly recanted his remarks when confronted by evidence to the contrary. Harsevoort could get 90 days in jail and a three-year ban on all hunting privileges if convicted.
