HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 28-year-old Holland man was hurt in a car-tree crash after he dozed off while driving, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon Sgt. Smoes.
The crash happened at 3:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 on northbound US 31, near Pierce Street in Grand Haven Township.
Police learned the man had been driving Chevrolet Equinox north on US 31 when he nodded off. The Equinox went into the median, hitting a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Grand Haven Township firefighters extricated the man, who was the Equinox’s only occupant.
A North Ottawa Hospital EMS team rushed him for treatment of what Smoes indicated were non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
