GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – The Mercantile Bank branch off of East 16th Street in Holland was unaffected as five of the company’s 53 branches in central and West Michigan will close during the first quarter of 2016. Staffers at offices on Gull Lake Road in Kalamazoo, along with Ashley, Higgins Lake, St. Louis and West Branch will be moved to other branches in the system if space allows. The closings, based on low traffic and deposit facilities, are part of a “company-wide, cost-efficiency review” of Mercantile’s banking unit. Affected customers are asked to use other branches as well as utilize extensive online services.
