OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 33-year-old Zeeland woman may find herself in trouble with the law after admitting that an attack on her at a West Olive county party turned out to be a hoax.
Sheriff’s detectives said that the unnamed woman recanted her story of being assaulted in Hemlock Crossing Park around 6:30 PM on Monday evening. The victim claimed that she was sitting on a bench overlooking the river when she was grabbed from behind. The male suspect held a knife to her throat and told her to shut up. She said she was able to fight him off and he fled through the trails back to the parking lot. Based on what the woman said, a Boy Scout troop out of Grand Haven was put on lockdown in a building at the park for more than an hour as deputies searched for the assailant before being allowed to go home.
The case will be forwarded to Ottawa County Prosecutor Ron Frantz’ office for review. Captain John Wolffis wouldn’t say at this point if criminal charges against the woman could be forthcoming.
