HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Music, the arts, and food are at the top of this week’s list of things to do in Holland!
Monday 11/9: Team Trivia Mondays at the Curragh- A plethora of categories gives all team members their strong subject and ensures the useless knowledge stored away will finally be put to good use. What does matter is that everyone has fun! Curragh prizes are usually, $30 gift certificates for first place, $20 gift certificates for second and $10 gift certificates for third. Tuesday 11/10: A Musical Journey to Vietnam with Van-Anh Vo at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church- The concert will feature traditional Vietnamese music,arrangements of Western classical and jazz works for Vietnamese instruments, as well as Ms. Võ’s original compositions, performed in collaboration with Hope College jazz faculty andstudents. One of these collaborations will be an improvisation on a poem of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh about the Vietnam War, which Ms. Võ will read in Vietnamese, while the jazz singers echo her in English, and instrumentalists improvise according to the mood changes and meaning of the poem. The concert will also include opportunities for the audience to interact directly with the artists. 171 West 13th Street, Holland; 7:30pm; Free.
Wednesday 11/11: Farmers Market at Eighth Street Market Place- Buy fresh produce, flowers, plants, baked goods, meats cheeses, spices and more from over 50 vendors. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at the Food Court. This is the last Wednesday Farmers Market of the year! 150 West Eighth Street, Holland; 8am-2pm.
Thursday 11/12: Annual Holiday Bazaar at First United Methodist Church- 54th Annual Holiday Bazaar, a Lakeshore Christmas, features decorations, crafts, attic specials, cookie corner, country store, pigs-in-a-blanket, kids’ items, more. 57 West 10th Street, Holland; 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM; Free.
Friday 11/13: Actors from the London Stage presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Knickerbocker Theatre- Featuring minimal props, costumes, and set, the clever staging showcases the talents of this unique five-member ensemble while keeping the focus where it belongs-on Shakespeare’s words. The five veteran classical theatre actors have experience in such companies as the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal National Theatre, The English Shakespeare Company, as well as extensive credits in film and television, including the BBC. 86 East 8th Street, Holland; 7:30pm; Adults – $10, Seniors – $7, Students- $5.
Saturday 11/14: Charming Mothers & Delightful Daughters at Alpen Rose Café. Come enjoy an event designed to create a lovely experience for both mothers and daughters looking to share quality time. Together, come learn about social graces and gain confidence in knowing the proper etiquette for any social situation. This fun and interactive program for young ladies and their mothers-or mother figures- will include tips on proper dining etiquette, including greeting and introductions, poise and posture, and all other social rules of fine dining all throughout a fun and memorable event that includes a four course meal for both participants! 4 East 8th Street, Holland; 10:30 am-1:00pm; $38 per person.
Sunday 11/15: Holland Symphony Youth Orchestra Fall Concert at Zeeland East High School DeWitt Auditorium- Come for a wonderful concert featuring the Holland Area Youth Orchestra and the Junior Strings! Audience members are invited to stay a few minutes after the concert for a reception to meet and greet the musicians and the Music Director of Holland Symphony Youth Orchestras featured on the concert. 3333 96th Ave., Zeeland; 3pm; $3.
