Holland City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved permits for a new gas pipe line under Macatawa River Wolverine Pipe Line must upgrade it’s existing gas line, which is more than 50 years old. Mayor Nancy DeBoer told WHTC the company faces a February federal deadline. “They would really like to get going on replacing the pipe,” DeBoer said. “They don’t want to try to fix it. It would cost way, way more to try to determine where the spots are.” DeBoer said installing a new pipe is better than trying to fix the old one. “I’m glad that they’re starting over instead of just trying to find the leaks and patching things and all of that,” she said. — Peg McNichol
