JACKSON, MI (WHTC) – A six-year plan for upgrading all of Consumers Energy’s meters in the Lower Peninsula continues, with officials of the Jackson-based utility saying that more than 800 thousand new meters have been installed, around half of the number needed. The Lakeshore has been taken care of on this since 2014 as Consumers staffers have been, for the most part, working west to east on this project. The utility has also been addressing fears from some customers that the new meters, which are based on online reads, could be used as an invasion of privacy and a way to steal personal identification.
