HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – They’re are plenty of opportunities to enjoy Christmas lights in Holland this week!
11/30 Monday: Christmas Train Show at Howard Miller Community Center- The Annual Holiday Train Show is presented by the Holland Modular Railroad Club. Nonperishable food donations will be accepted for the Ken DeWilde memorial and given to His Harvest Stand. 14 S Church St, Zeeland; 6-8pm; Free.
12/1 Tuesday: Parade of Lights in Downtown Holland- Santa arrives in Downtown Holland escorted by bands, floats, vehicles, family and friends all decked out in thousands of sparkling holiday lights! Over 80 entries will illuminate the streets of Downtown Holland during this procession. At the end of the Parade, Santa will take the time to greet his fans – young and old alike! The parade begins at 8th Street and Columbia Avenue and continues onto the Eighth Street Market Place, home of the Holiday Kerstmarkt. 78 East 8th Street, Holland; 6:30pm; Free.
12/2 Wednesday: Knickerbocker Fall Film Series: A Brilliant Young Mind- In a world difficult to comprehend, Nathan struggles to connect with those around him – most of all his loving mother – but finds comfort in numbers. When Nathan is taken under the wing of unconventional and anarchic teacher, Mr. Humphreys, the pair forge an unusual friendship and Nathan’s talents win him a place on the UK team at the International Mathematics Olympiad. 12/3 Thursday: Holland Garden Club Holiday Home Tour & Tea- Tour 4 homes decorated for Christmas! The homes are in the Bay Meadows subdivision at Lakewood Blvd., and a “Fancy Nancy” Christmas Tea and designer wreath raffle will be held at Harderwyk Church from noon until 3pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased from Holland Garden Club members, at Jonkers Gardens, Van Wieren Hardware and the Holland Visitors Bureau. Tickets are $25 day of show at each home and Harderwyk church.
12/4 Friday: Sinterklaas Eve Procession at Eighth Street Market Place- Listen to stories, make a craft, and play games at the Holland Civic Center (150 W 8th Street). Bring a non-perishable food item to donate and receive a colorful lighted lantern. Then gather outside in the 8th Street Marketplace and join Sinterklaas in a procession to Centennial Park for the official welcome and lighting of the park. Head inside The Holland Museum to meet Sinterklaas and enjoy complimentary refreshments. 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM; Free.
12/5 Saturday: Holiday Market at Washington Square- The shops of Washingtown Square would like to invite you for a day on The Square! Here’s what’s happening:- A Ken Huber Art Gallery and Washington Squared will be hosting their grand openings.- Pereddies Restaurant & Deli will be offering hos d’oeuvres and taste testing.- Washington Square Art Gallery is serving beverages and snacks.- Bodhi Tree Yoga & Wellness Studio will be lighting their giant Christmas Tree at dark.- Silkscreen Marketing will have cookies and be selling Christmas themed t-shirts.- Washington Square Minit Mart will be offering hot cocoa and cookies.- As always The Biscuit will be serving delicious breakfast and lunch!
12/6 Sunday: Holland High School Theatre Presents White Christmas- Based on the beloved, timeless 1954 film, this heartwarming musical adaptation features seventeen Irving Berlin songs, dozens of dances and fun for the full family! With over 150 costumes, a stage full of sets and enough energy to light up the city, this show will be the perfect start to an exciting holiday season! Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. The dazzling score features well known standards including Blue Skies, I Love A Piano, How Deep Is the Ocean, Sisters and the perennial favorite, White Christmas. Directed by Kevin Schneider, the company features Seniors Noah Helmus and Maxwell Lam as Bob Wallace and Phil Davis (roles made famous in the movie by Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Love interests and sisters Judy and Betty are played by Junior Anna Ryzenga and senior Emma Martens. White Christmas will feature choreography by Hope student Mollie Murk, local choreographer Gina Johnson as well as guest choreographer from New York, Lydia Dawson (last seen as choreographer for both Shrek and Phantom of the Opera). 600 Van Raalte Ave., Holland; 2pm; Students $10, General Admission $15.
