HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Windmill Island’s old-fashioned carousel is getting an $85,000 facelift.So far, three large horses and a small zebra have been renovated — the work cost more than $14,000 — about $4,000 more than budgeted.Holland City Council has to approve payment for the cost overrun.The carousel has a total of 15 large animals and nine small animals as well as two chariots.Holland City Council previously approved an $85,000 bid by Holland Imports and Souvenirs for the renovations.Holland Imports and Souvenirs was the only bidder for the job. The company restored 64 decorative panels on the carousel in 2003.The work, which is part of Windmill Island Gardens’ Strategic Plan, is being paid for by 2013 and 2014 fundraising.
