Holland Public Safety Officers Spread Gift Cards in “Pay it Forward” Revival

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Nearly five years after it had started, Holland’s “Pay it Forward” civic goodwill initiative has apparently been revived. Public Safety officers are sharing gift cards the department had received from undisclosed donors this Christmas season with random offerings to motorists at various locations. Mayor Nancy DeBoer posted a photo of an officer with a recipient of these gift cards on her Twitter account. Holland launched the Pay it Forward program in 2011 when a Brooklyn woman, after seeing a network television news report about the Tulip City, sent a 250 dollar check to then-Mayor Kurt Dykstra, asking him to donate the money to someone in need and encourage them to do good for someone else.
