ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – During tonight’s Zeeland City Council meeting, members are expected to vote on a resolution of support for seeking federal transportation funding of a proposed reconstruction of West Washington Avenue from Franklin to the western city limits. City officials want to secure 1.48 million dollars in Surface Transportation Program funds towards the estimated 2.1 million-dollar price tag of the project. An expansion is desired, in part because traffic volumes of around four thousand vehicles daily now are forecasted to double by 2035, and the roadway there is currently rated as poor.
Also this evening, council members are expected to vote on retaining CivicPlus, at a cost of nearly 16 thousand dollars, to design a new municipal website. City Manager Tim Klunder, in pushing for this contract, admitted that efforts to pursue a website rebuild have gone on for more than three years, due in part to “companies that we were working, while talented, just were not equipped to meet our needs.” CivicPlus has over two thousand municipal clients, and Klunder feels “confident that we will be able to manage our new site confidently” once it is established.
