GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – With 105,000 homes and business without power in the wake of 60 mph winds, Consumers Energy is calling in out-of-state crews. It could be Sunday before everyone has power again, according to a company statement issued Thursday morning.
Wind damage peaked at 135,000 Consumers Energy customers across western and northern Michigan without power. Parts of Holland in the Core City area west of downtown are without power and parts of south shore drive have had their power restored this morning.
Mary Pavlich, Consumers Energy vice president of energy delivery says crews are on the job making dangerous situations safe and restoring power as quickly as possible.
In Ottawa County over 5,000 customers are without power and in Allegan County over 2,000 Consumers Energy customers. Crews will be working along roads and Consumers Ed reminds drivers to slow down or stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear so they can safely go past workers on roadsides.
