PARK TWP., MI (WHTC) – Cautions about Christmas Trees are being renewed after a fire caused extensive smoke damage to a Park Township home overnight. Crews were called to the residence off of Riley Street west of 144th Avenue around 1 AM to find the artificial tree blazing in a family room. The only resident inside at the time was roused from sleep by smoke detectors, called 911 and was able to escape safely, while fire damage was contained to the tree and its immediate surrounding area. No firefighters were reportedly injured in the blaze, which apparently started from a short on a string of electrical lights.
