HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s officials issued a warning late yesterday of a phone scam that’s scaring people and costing some money.
Police are investigating a spate of calls during which someone posing as a Sheriff’s official claims the person being called faces arrest for missing jury duty — and demands payments of fake fines.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Wendt says police will never call anyone demanding cash, money transfers or gift cards in exchange for dropping a warrant.
Detectives are investigating and asking anyone who may have gotten those calls to make out a police report, esp
ecially if they’ve been defrauded.
