HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – COVID 19 is doing what no women’s basketball team has done since the spring of 2019 – prevailing over Hope College.
On Thursday (Jan. 6, 2022), school officials said that health protocols involving the novel coronavirus have compelled them to pause all Flying Dutch team activities with immediate effect. This means that Saturday’s scheduled home game against Olivet at DeVos Fieldhouse and Monday’s rescheduled contest at Alma, which had been moved from Jan. 5 due to COVID 19 health protocols, have been postponed. “Makeup dates for those two games are to be determined,” the school statement said.
This past Tuesday, Hope had already “postponed” the Jan. 6 home match against Illinois College due to health protocols. This game, which was initially slated for Dec. 28th in Orlando but was moved to Holland at the request of the visiting Lady Blue, may eventually be cancelled since it is a non-league game, and the Flying Dutch are set to resume MIAA action when they do return to the court. That return may not be until Wednesday, Jan. 12, when Adrian comes to DeVos Fieldhouse to challenge Hope’s 56-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, the Flying Dutchmen’s game versus visiting Olivet for Saturday is still on, with broadcast time at 2:40 PM on The Lakeshore’s 92 7 The Van. The Hope men had their Jan. 5 contest with Trine at DeVos Fieldhouse postponed on Tuesday due to COVID 19 health protocols; that match will be made up on Monday, Jan. 10, with a 7 PM tip.
