UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – School districts along the Lakeshore didn’t even wait until the predawn hours of Thursday (Jan. 6, 2022) before deciding on a second straight “snow day” of the new year.
All of the public school districts in and around the Holland area announced on Wednesday evening that they would not hold classes on Thursday, due to the Winter Storm Warning that was expected to last until 10 AM on Friday. These districts had preemptively called off classes on Wednesday morning before the storm arrived in mid-morning, as fears of dangerous driving conditions due to the storm were realized.
The possibility of a third straight “snow day” for Friday has been heightened by the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids’ Wednesday evening statement that, “Localized heavy lake effect snow and hazardous travel conditions will continue into Friday morning for portions of western Lower Michigan.”
Classroom learning had resumed for the Academic Year on Monday for most Lakeshore area school districts despite growing COVID 19 case numbers locally, nationally and worldwide.
