HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — With Ottawa County Circuit/Probate Court Administrator Kevin J. Bowling retiring next week, he introduced his successor, Susan M. Franklin, to Ottawa County’s commissioners this week. Franklin has been the county’s trial division director.
The county’s chief judges selected Franklin after a national recruiting effort that drew candidates from across Michigan as well as from Arizona, California, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Canada.
Franklin earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Grand Valley State University and went on to earn a master’s in public administration from GVSU, thena law degree from Michigan State University’s College of Law. She worked as a law clerk in Kalamazoo’s Ninth Circuit Court; practiced privately for 12 years with the Muskegon-based Williams Hughes law firm; and has been Ottawa County’s 20th Circuit court trial-division director for the last four years.
The county’s announcement of her promotion notes she is an active member of the Michigan Association of Circuit Court Administrators and the National Association for Court Management.
Bowling’s 44-year career in the judicial system, includes nearly 19 years as the court administrator. His last day is Jan. 14, 2022.
