HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 28-year-old Holland man is in custody in regards to what Holland Public Safety is calling a homicide investigation at a residence just west of the downtown district.
According to a department statement by Captain Robert Buursma, issued on Tuesday (Dec. 28, 2021) afternoon, police officers were called to a home in the 200 block of West 9th Street shortly after 9 PM on Sunday (Dec. 26, 2021) on a report that a 25-year-old woman was found dead there. “The initial investigation into the incident determined that the death was suspicious, and detectives were called in for further investigation,” Buursma said. “Over the past couple of days, HDPS detectives continued the investigation and determined the death was a homicide. A suspect, who was well known to the victim, was identified and eventually arrested for the homicide.”
No names of the victim or of the arrested man were immediately disclosed pending an arraignment in Holland District Court on open murder charges. The matter remains under investigation, and “detectives are still following up on additional information,” Buursma added.
Those who have any information that may have a bearing on this incident is asked to call Holland Public Safety (616-355-1150) or contacting Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536; text OCMTIP to 274637).
