Diana Mary (Rouhana) Vogan, age 82, of Zeeland, died Thursday, December 16, 2021, at her home surrounded by family. She was born in East Los Angeles, California, but spent most of her life in Holland, Michigan.
She was a teacher assistant and receptionist in the West Ottawa School systems for thirty-eight years and was a member of Our Lady of the Lake’s “Lady Knights of Columbus.”
In retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout North America. She delighted in sharing stories and photographs of her travels to her favorite destinations: Costa Rica, Yosemite, Quebec City, Zion, and so many more, as she collected magnets along the way. She enjoyed competitive games of all kinds—Farkle with family, bingo, and trips to the casino though she loved nothing more—other than her family—so much as bowling on her league and Wednesday breakfasts with a wide circle of friends. Her highest priority, however, was her family and attending the milestone events of her children and grandchildren—weddings, graduations, and births. Regardless of the distance, if a plane, train, or automobile could bridge the miles, she would be there. She was a “young soul,” who enjoyed people of all ages and was a gracious host to her family’s wide array of friends. As the matriarch of the family, she became a role model of how to accept life’s challenges and age gracefully. She would sacrifice to meet the needs of those she loved.
She is survived by her dear sister and friend Nancy Rouhana, whose importance to her only grew through their lifetimes; her sons Jim and his wife Alicia; Mark and his wife Amy; and her many grandchildren: Emily, Cory and his wife Ryanne, Kelsey, Cody, Julian, Kristina, Sarah and her husband John, Michael, Mary, Nathan, Hannah, and Andrew; and her great-grandchildren Jacob, Chaston, Colt, Wyatt, Addie, Malia, Kaden, and Ford. Her definition of family was not defined by bloodlines.
She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Marion Rouhana; her husband of 49 ½ years, Gerold Vogan; and her daughter Shelly Marsh.
She was also a lover of animals and her many grand-dogs/cats were a source of joy in her life. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Harbor Humane Society.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Diana’s life will be Tuesday, December 21, 2021, from 5-8:00 pm at the Holland VFW, 175 W. 8th St., Holland.
