KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Gettings is urging state lawmakers to re-consider a bill regarding the safe storage of weapons in the wake of the Oxford schools tragedy.
Gettings said that the bill, which is currently stuck in legislative committees, would make it a criminal offense to have unsafe storage of weapons around children.
He stated that state lawmakers are obligated to make sure that prosecutors like him have the legal tools to prevent incidents like the one in Oxford.
The bills are stalled in committees that are chaired by Republicans, with the House committee chair saying that prosecutors already have the tools necessary to prosecute cases, and the bill in his committee is too ambiguous.
