HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland resident Glenn Schrotenboer, 84, died in a single-vehicle traffic crash on Friday morning, according to Holland Police Capt. Robert Buursma.
Police and firefighters were called to the scene at at US 31 and Lincoln Avenue at 8:15 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, 2021. They found a 2019 Dodge Caravan crashed into a building at Holland Self Storage, 160 E 40th St. Mr. Schrotenboer, the driver and only occupant of the Caravan, was unresponsive, but rushed to Holland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Buursma indicated Mr. Schrotenboer had been driving south on U.S. 31 when, just after crossing the Lincoln Avenue intersection, his Caravan ran off the right side of the road, running over a grassy area, then through a fence and onto the Holland Self Storage property, crashing into a storage building. Police believe he suffered a medical event while driving which led to the crash.
Neither speed or alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash. No other vehicles were involved. The crash remains under investigation.
