Joan Louise Thomas, 77 of Ganges, Michigan, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021. Born August 24, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she was the daughter of Roland and Florence (Rewa) Squire and the wife of Bob Thomas. Joan was raised Catholic and proud of her Christian faith. Many categorized Joan as being the most selfless and generous person they knew, always thinking of others before herself. She was an avid reader, bird watcher, and gardener, growing beautiful flowers, asparagus, tomatoes, raspberries, and much more. She always made sure she had enough pumpkins for each grandkid! Joan took pride in canning her own jellies, jams, pickles, and salsa, which she readily shared. Family get-togethers at her house were always a treat and you were guaranteed to have some of her famous banana bread or baked beans. Joan loved to winter in Florida where she enjoyed riding her bike and golf cart and fishing with Bob. She caught her share of prize-winning fish! Her children and grandchildren looked up to her and admired her ability to be everything to everybody. Joan made everyone she touched feel special. The legacy she leaves behind is one of love and nurturing. A true woman with a capacity to love.
Along with her husband of 39 years, Bob, she is survived by her three children, Pam (John) Shenouda, Leslie (James) Huntington, and Bobby (Julie) Thomas; four grandchildren, Ryan Shenouda, Eric Shenouda, Nick Shenouda, and George Thomas; and six siblings, Gregg (Val) Squire, Gary Squire, Bob (Diane) Squire, Pat (Al) Johnson, Mike (Elaine) Squire, and Mary (Ron) Alexander.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Peter Catholic Church on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 11:00 AM with visitation for one hour prior. Joan will be laid to rest in Taylor Cemetery. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held at the VFW in Fennville.
