ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 57-year-old Fennville man experiencing a medical emergency crashed his vehicle into Spectrum-Zeeland’s medical building, 8333 Felch St. in Zeeland, early Thursday morning, October 21, 2021. The medical building is just east of the main hospital.
No one was hurt as a result of the crash, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Dill.
The medical building is just east of the main hospital, according to Spectrum Zeeland spokeswoman Sara Donkersloot.
“The building was closed and unoccupied at the time,” she wrote to WHTC. “We are working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.”
Deputies were dispatched to the facility off of Chicago Drive shortly after 3:30 a.m.
“A preliminary examination revealed that the man was driving himself to the hospital for medical treatment when he lost consciousness while driving and crashing into the building,” Dill said in a statement emailed to media, adding that the crash broke through the building’s front wall.
The driver, who was not physically hurt in the crash, Dill said, was taken into the emergency department for treatment of his original medical condition.
Dill added that drugs or alcohol “do not appear to be factors in the crash” which remains under investigation.
