KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The company that owns a West Michigan television station has fallen victim to a ransomware attack.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns WWMT NewsChannel 3, reported that on Saturday, October 16, the company had identified a potential security incident. The following day, they confirmed that certain servers and workstations were encrypted with the ransomware across their company.
WWMT has experienced various disruptions since then during local and syndicated programming. News anchors and reporters have had to greatly alter how they produce and present their newscasts. They’ve even had to cancel certain local news broadcasts, while the company continues trying to investigate and contain the cyberattack as much as they can.
In a statement, Sinclair Broadcast Group says they hope to restore operations quickly and securely. The full statement from the company can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.
