WOMEN’S GOLF
The Hope College women’s golf team claimed its 10th MIAA title by finishing the 108-hole fall season with a league-low total of 1,932 strokes. Led by season medalist Grace VanDellen, the Flying Dutch carded rounds of 325 and 311 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the MIAA’s Fall Finish at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. The 311 was a season-best. Hope, coached by Greg Stafford, also clinched the opportunity to host the final two rounds of next spring’s NCAA Division III Championships qualifier.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Freshman Margaret Owsiany scored the go-ahead goal with 8 1/2 minutes remaining to lift the Hope College women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory against unbeaten Trine University on Saturday at home. Prior to the game, the Flying Dutch honored head coach Leigh Sears by wearing pink warm-up shirts. Hope (8-3, 2-1 MIAA), plays at Albion College on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.
MEN’S SOCCER
The fastest goal of the season sparked the Hope College men’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory against Albion College on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. Sophomore Matt Wimmer scored 5 1/2 minutes into the game. The Flying Dutchmen (8-2-1, 2-0 MIAA) play at Trine University on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL
The fourth-ranked Hope College volleyball team won two of three matches over the weekend. On Friday, the Flying Dutch defeated Kalamazoo College in three sets at home. On Saturday, Hope swept No. 11 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire but lost to No. 19 University of Chicago in five sets to snap a 13-game winning streak. The Flying Dutch (17-2, 5-0 MIAA) host Adrian College on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. for Senior Day at DeVos Fieldhouse.
ACHA HOCKEY
The Hope College ice hockey team swept Miami (Ohio) University on the road, 6-2 on Friday and 3-2 in overtime on Saturday. It was opening weekend for the Flying Dutchmen. Senior Max Mones led Hope with four points over two games, which included one goal and three assists. The Flying Dutchmen had eight goal scorers. Sophomore Jake Adams chipped in two goals, one of which was Saturday’s game-winner
