HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 40-year-old Sparta man suffered critical injuries in a car-tractor crash just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike VanDenBosch. A 40-year-old Coopersville woman suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries during the crash; the passenger in her car, a 28-year-old Coopersville man, was not physically hurt.
Deputies, called to a stretch of Gooding Street, just east of 24th Avenue, found the Sparta man had been ejected from the tractor during the crash.
The police investigation indicated the Coopersville woman had been driving a Chevy Cruze west on Gooding Street and rear-ended the International tractor. She was trapped in the vehicle.
Conklin and Sparta firefighters assisted at the scene, as did a Rockford Ambulance team.
The investigation continues however, speed appears to be a factor in the Coopersville woman’s case, but police are also looking at lack of lighting at the back of the tractor. Drugs are alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, VanDenBosch said.
