STEVENSVILLE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Police in Stevensville are investigating a possible sexual assault case at Grand Mere State Park.
On Tuesday, the Lincoln Township Police Department reported that an 18-year-old woman was assaulted at the park on September 20 around 8:00 p.m. Police say she had set up a hammock in the park and was confronted by a suspect as she was preparing to leave.
The suspect was described as a white male in his 30’s with dark hair and a white T-shirt.
The victim said she woke up on the ground in pain from being physically assaulted, and does not know how long she was unconscious. She received head and facial injuries and was transported to Spectrum Health in St. Joseph for further treatment.
Officers from multiple jurisdictions conducted a search of the area, which included deployment of a K9 unit. However, no suspect was located.
Evidence recovered from the scene is being processed at the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.
At this time, police say investigators are working with the victim in order to produce a composite sketch of the suspect, which will be released to the public as soon as possible.
This incident remains under investigation, and more details will be released as they are made available.
