Walter Edwin Vuurens, age 91, from Holland finished his earthly race and stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 11th, 2021. His very strong faith brought him through the last not so easy 7 years.

Walt was a 1948 Holland High graduate, was a 1951 machinist graduate of Chanute Air Force Base, IL. Then served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a Journeyman Tool and Die maker for many shops, retiring from GM in 1996. Walt was a long-time and very active member of Potter’s Wheel Bible Church. He led Bible studies at GM where they nicknamed him “Chaplain Walt”. After retiring, he stayed active by cutting up fallen trees and large branches after storms. He was an avid hunter and reader all of his life.

Walt was survived by: his children Pamela Hemingway (Jim Butts), Rod (Karen) Vuurens, Karri (Steve) Ouwerkerk, and Janet (Jeff) Achterhof; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great greats; in-laws, Thelma Thompson, Marilyn Soulliere, Gayle Kollen, Brent and Pat Bouwman, Gary and Char Bouwman; and many nieces and nephews.

Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel (Bouwman); his only brother, Don and Florence Vuurens; his parents, Arie and Aubra (Koppenaal) Vuurens; in-laws, Loren and Theresa Bouwman, Oscar and Glenda Smith, Roy Thompson, Harold Soulliere, Wendy Kollen, Gloria Bouwman; and too many nieces and nephews.

There are no services scheduled at this time. An open house will be on Oct. 2nd, 1-3 at the Salvation Army, 104 Clover Ave. Holland.
