HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County’s parks and recreation commission has set a special meeting for 12:30 p.m. today.
The meeting is set to for the parks conference room at the Fillmore Street Complex, 12220 Fillmore St. in West Olive.
Commissioners are being asked to authorize the Ottawa County Parks Foundation to raise money for Ottawa Sands Park, which is set for some recreational development.
Ottawa Sands is a 345-acre free park at 18153 North Shore Drive in Ferrysburg, just west of the City of Ferrysburg’s Coast Guard Park. Current park hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., which shifts on Oct. 16 (through Feb. 28) to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Proposed amenities in a December, 2020, county parks and recreation report include boardwalk and overlook decks; expanded nature trail; a multi-purpose pavilion; river-edge protection plan; a 10-foot-wide accessible paved trail; picnic shelter; barrier-free canoe and kayak launch; greenway camping; observation towers; and a playground / discovery area.
This meeting includes time for public comment, but people who wish to speak are asked to limit their comments to 3 minutes per person.
