HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The number of people diagnosed with some form of COVID-19 is six times higher in August than in July.
The county’s health dashboard shows an average of 80 people testing positive daily over the last seven days. But late last week, that figure was closer to 50. As of Aug. 30, 2021, county records show 1,650 people tested positive in August, compared to 279 in July.
Currently, close to 2,000 Ottawa County residents have COVID-19, and county health officials said the delta variant is driving the surge.
Holland Hospital officials have restarted a patient counter on the hospital’s website, which shows 11 people admitted with severe symptoms of the coronavirus.
Spectrum Health’s 14-hospital system shows 130 patients currently being treated for severe symptoms. Just last month, the hospital had fewer than 10 such patients.
