Vos, Gertrude Mae (2/9/1929 – 8/25/2021). Gert, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Holland, Michigan, early Wednesday morning, August 25th. Gert was born in Byron Center, Michigan to Wilbur and Bessie Poutsma. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Donald Keizer and Arthur Vos. Her sisters, Johanna Grit, Grace Grit, Angie De Kraker, and two sons, Charles Keizer, and Bob Keizer. Gert is survived by her daughters, Sue (Bob) Volkers, Barb (Con) Kleinheksel, and Jeanne (Tom) Kort; her grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Walls, Chad (Nikki) Kleinheksel, Charlie (Abby) Kleinheksel, Chip (Liz) Kleinheksel, Annalise (Ron) Radcliffe and Betsy Kort. As well as many, many beloved great-grandchildren and extended family.
Mother, grandma, and friend – Gert was known for so many wonderful things. She was passionate about travel, founding her own travel business, Gert’s Getaways. She traveled with many friends, both new and old, to places like Detroit, Chicago, and New York City. Known around her congregation, First Reformed Church in Holland, as the “fun” grandma who gave children rides on her bright, red scooter and a local advocate for the Max Bus transportation service. Gert will be forever remembered as the woman with wildly, quick reflexes during a rousing game of spoons with the family, and the matriarch who spread the value of joy and a love of life to whomever she encountered. Above all, Gert was a deeply committed follower of Jesus. She affectionately shared with her family in her last days, “I love Jesus because He first loved me.” The family is deeply grateful for the legacy she has entrusted onto them. One marked by ongoing strength in the goodness of Christ’s love, and overwhelming joy for laughter, friendship, and love.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 28 from 12-2 p.m. at First Reformed Church (630 State Street, Holland) with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m. A live stream will be available for those who cannot attend in person.
The family is deeply grateful to the caring staff of Resthaven, Hospice of Holland, and Dykstra Funeral Home for all their work and preparation.
