SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The symbols for Saugatuck Public Schools moving forward has been set.
During the Monday night (Aug. 16, 2021) monthly Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Tim Travis unveiled its official branding for the “Trailblazers” name that the district adopted in January, replacing the long-standing “Indians” moniker.
There are three logo marks, described by the district as “primary” (used for the district, individual schools and intuition), “secondary” (used exclusively for athletics) and “tertiary” (the traditional block S to be “used when necessary,” according to the district).
“We have already updated many instances of the new graphic identity and will continue to do so in the coming weeks,” Dr. Travis said in a district statement. “We will replace more costly items, like uniforms, as the need arises, in the regular lifecycle of replacing them. We are also able to ensure the design within our building renovations reflects this new brand for the district.”
Saugatuck schools received a grant of over $43,000 from the Native American Heritage Fund to cover the cost of the rebranding effort, with Holland-based Next Creative Company coming up with the designs.
