WALKER, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Lakeshore’s animal shelter is participating in a effort from an arm of a nationally-known vacuum cleaner and floor care product manufacturer, based in suburban Grand Rapids, to find forever homes for the pets inside.
Harbor Humane Society in West Olive is among 80 facilities across 27 states joining in this “Emergency Empty the Shelters,” sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation. From Aug. 16 to Aug. 22, 2021, the foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees for $25 or less for dogs weighing 40 pounds or more, cats six months or older, and dogs seven years or older.
“Our nation’s animal shelters are struggling in the face of overcrowding, which makes this event an even more critical tool to ensure our shelter partners can find loving families for the pets who so often get overlooked,” Cathy Bissell, who founded the Bissell Pet Foundation 10 years ago, said in a statement. ”We hope this event and the facilitated animal transports can provide some much-needed relief for shelters in dire need of support.”
Since the “Empty the Shelters” effort began in 2016, nearly 54 thousand animals were adopted across North America.
The Harbor Humane Society is located at 14345 Bagley Street, off of US-31 between Tyler and Croswell streets.
