HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Hope College’s Big Read Lakeshore program will be bolstered by six Native American authors participating this fall.
The Holland school announced on Thursday (Aug. 5, 2021) that Joy Harjo, the current Poet Laureate of the United Stated, will be joined by Lydia Whirlwind Soldier, Angeline Boulley, Dr. Debbit Reese, Kevin Noble Maillard and Cynthia Leitch Smith in presentations starting from October 25th through November 15th.
Done in collaboration with Herrick District Library, the seven-year-old NEA Big Read Lakeshore program aims to create and foster a culture where reading matters by bringing the community together around a common book. Participants share the experience of reading, discussing and exploring the themes of the book as a springboard for listening and learning from each other.
Program officials say that more events are planned, and for those wishing to attend and/or participate, information is available here.
