HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s statement this week indicating she does not expect to issue any mandatory mask orders — despite new U.S. Centers for Disease Control recommendations that people use masks indoors, in communities with rising cases of the virus, especially the Delta variant.
Michigan’s numbers have more-than doubled over the last two weeks, with nearly 450 people being diagnosed daily with some form of COVID-19.
In Ottawa County, where an average of five people were being diagnosed daily earlier in July, health officials now see an average of 10 people being diagnosed over the last week.
In Allegan County, fewer than one person a day was getting diagnosed with the coronavirus as of July 1. By July 23, nearly four people were being diagnosed daily.
Both counties have multiple ways for people to get vaccinated for free.
