SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An annual tradition in Saugatuck is back.
There were concerns in May when the board of the Cow Hill Yacht Club, who established the Venetian Festival as a fundraiser for local charitable organizations, announced that, for a second straight year, the event would have to be canceled due to COVID 19 health protocols. However, when those protocols were lifted a month later, the event was back on, according to organizer Sherry Tedaldi.
“I did see all of the feedback on Facebook, and I thought, ‘Well, heck, we can have Venetian Lite,” she said on WYVN’s “Saugatuck on Sunday” during an appearance on July 25, 2021. “We can’t have a full thing this year, but we can have Venetian Lite.
“It takes a couple of months to get fireworks ready, and the costs for police patrol and marine patrol for the boat parade would have been astronomical – something that we just couldn’t afford.”
So despite no fireworks or boat parade, staples of past Venetian Festivals, organizers will still have a Friday Night Party on July 30, from 6 to 11 PM, and a Dingy Poker Run on Saturday from 12 to 3 PM.
