ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 16-year-old youth is in custody following a reported break in and assault in the Allendale area on Tuesday afternoon (July 27, 2021).
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Jake Sparks, deputies were dispatched to the area of Douglas Drive near Jordan Street around 4:30 PM on a report of a home invasion. “An unknown male subject had entered the victim’s home and physically assaulted her,” Sparks said in a department statement. “The suspect then fled the scene on foot prior to deputies’ arrival.
“Responding deputies, assisted by GVSU Department of Public Safety Officers, established a perimeter, and a Sheriff’s Office K-9 attempted a track in the area to locate the suspect. In speaking with neighbors, it was determined that numerous witnesses had observed the suspect near the victim’s home in the moments before and after the (incident).”
Deputies were able to locate the suspect, and after interviewing him, as well as looking at recovered evidence, the youth was taken into custody. “It was determined that the suspect lived near the victim, though the two did not know each other,” Sparks continued.
The victim, a 30-year-old woman, received minor injuries, while a young child in the residence was not assaulted or injured. The suspect is in the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Facility awaiting formal charges.
Sparks added that no other suspects “are outstanding, and there is no other threat to the public.”
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT).
