EAST GRAND RAPIDS MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The spectre of mosquitoes in Michigan just got a little darker, as Kent County has reported its first cases of West Nile Virus.
The insects found to have the virus were found in the area of East Grand Rapids and part of southeast Grand Rapids.
While most people who are bitten show little to no effects, there are rare cases where the virus causes serious symptoms or death.
WOOD TV 8 reporter Barton Dieters, after contracting West Nile in 2020, passed away earlier this year.
Health experts emphasize that following the guidelines of protection against mosquitoes should become a priority.
