HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A long night may await Holland City Council members on Wednesday (July 21, 2021).
There is a lengthy list of issues before the nine-member panel when they convene in Holland City Hall at 6:30 PM. The one matter that may take the most time and grab the most attention is a proposal to approve a Unified Development Ordinance. According to Senior Planner Jessa Elswick and CNS Director Mark Vanderploeg, the UDO “combines all development related ordinances and codes into a single, graphic-heavy regulatory document.”
Fourth Ward Council Member Nicki Arendshorst explained what the biggest bones of contention are.
“There are two controversial portions to it, which is why all the excitement was generated, and we love that,” she said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during an appearance last Thursday. “Feedback is always helpful.
“One of (the controversial portions) involves R-1, single-family residential (zoning), and the other involves the traditional historical neighborhood.”
Also on the agenda is a proposal to push up the start time of business meetings another half hour to 6 PM. Nathan Bocks had promoted an earlier start time from the long-time 7 PM to 6:30 PM when he came to office as Mayor two years ago.
