HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 44-year-old Grand Rapids man was injured in a single-vehicle crash stemming from a police chase during the overnight hours of Sunday (June 13, 2021) in Hudsonville.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Dill, a deputy pulled over a vehicle near 36th Avenue and Chicago Drive (M-121) around 3:15 AM. “During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle sped away, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated,” Dill said in a department statement. “The pursuit lasted for about three minutes and ended when the vehicle crashed into a water-filled draining ditch at the intersection of 32nd Avenue and Barry Street.
“The passenger of the vehicle was pinned for a short time until he could be extricated by Hudsonville City Fire & Rescue. He was then transported to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids by LIFE EMS in stable condition, suffering only minor injuries.
Dill said that the driver involved, a 38-year-old Grand Rapids man, fled on foot after the crash and “the investigation into his whereabouts continues.”
