HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Spring Lake Township traffic crash sent a 59-year-old Norton Shores woman to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon with non-life-threatening injuries and damaged the township’s cemetery, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill.
His email to the media noted the crash happened just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021, near the intersection of State and North Fruitport roads.
The report indicated the woman failed to stop at the T intersection. Her car hit a chain-link fence at the Spring Lake Township Cemetery, continuing on for more than 150 feet, hitting about 12 headstones before stopping.
Area residents found the woman, rushing her to Mercy Hospital before notifying police, according to Dill. Investigators believe the woman suffered a medical event that contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation by Sheriff’s deputies.
