OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A two-vehicle crash in West Olive on Saturday night, May 15, 2021, hospitalized a 54-year-old Holland man.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the junction of US-31 and Port Sheldon Street shortly after 8 p.m.. A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle had been properly stopped on southbound US-31 for a red light when a SUV from behind apparently didn’t slow down or stop before running into the rear end of the stopped vehicle.
While a Holland man and a woman in the stopped vehicle, both aged 54, were not hurt, the driver of the SUV had to be extricated from his vehicle by rescuers and was taken to Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital for treatment of what Dill said was non-life threatening leg and hip injuries.
Southbound US-31 at the scene was blocked off for about an hour as a result of the crash, which remains under investigation.
