HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It’s budget time in the Tulip City.
The Holland City Council will conduct a public hearing during this evening’s (May 12, 2021) scheduled business meeting ahead of voting on a proposed $183.6 million-dollar spending plan for Fiscal 2022. It includes $26.6 million in total General Fund expenditures, which includes dipping into the Budget Stabilization Fund for $226 thousand as part of a required balanced budget.
It’s the fourth spending plan that Keith Van Beek has had a hand in drawing up since becoming Holland’s City Manager, and it may be his toughest due to the ongoing, long-range effects of the COVID 19 outbreak. “The budget that I recommend to council is conservative and cautious,” he said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during his monthly appearance last week. “We’re recognizing that we’re not sure we’ve seen the bottom yet. The big questions (concern) revenues and increased expenditures for the change in operations that we’ve had to have.”
Other matters will be before council during its 6:30 PM meeting in chambers at Holland City Hall.
