HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The 92nd annual Tulip Time Festival features a brand-new pair of events, aimed at public health.
Festival officials and Ottawa County Dept. of Public Health, along the the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, have partnered to deliver opportunities for people to get a COVID-19 test as well as the vaccine
These free tests and vaccines are available starting today, May 1, 2021, according to a press release emailed to media late Friday, April 30, 2021
Rapid testing will be offered at an outdoor walk-up site.
“Testing for COVID-19 is an important tool to identify where the virus is circulating in our community,” said Dr. Paul Heidel, medical director with OCDPH. “It is particularly crucial for those who’ve recently traveled.”
Ottawa County immunization supervisor Toni Bulthuis noted the partnership “gives us a great opportunity to meet people where they are and offer vaccination.”
County health officials will offer the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine “to make it as convenient as possible for people to get vaccinated,” Bulthuis said.
Gwen Auwerda, the Tulip Time Festival’s executive director said with Tulip Time being the first large festival in the state in more than a year, “We encourage people to take advantage of both of these services to stay safe so we can stay open.”
